May 10, 2011, Lewis & Clark County sponsored a tally of bicyclists and pedestrians, at 15 different sites around Helena, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Over that period, using nationally standardized means of counting, over 30 volunteers spotted:
388 Bicyclists
1,043 Pedestrians
Another 18 'others', I assume skateboarders and similar means of self-propulsion
For a grand total of 1,449 folks getting around using their own steam.
A .pdf map (1.4M), drawn by Jason Danielson of Lewis & Clark County, shows the counting sites, and the proportion of cyclists to pedestrians at each site.
